COVID-19

At Pottersway House Care Home, the well-being and safety of our residents remain our top priority. We understand the ongoing concerns surrounding COVID-19, and we want to assure you that we are taking comprehensive measures to protect our residents and staff.

Here’s an overview of our COVID-19 protocols:

  • Infection Prevention and Control (IPC): We adhere to strict IPC guidelines established by health authorities. This includes regular handwashing, proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and thorough disinfection of surfaces.
  • Resident and Staff Testing: We follow recommended testing protocols for residents and staff, helping to identify and isolate potential cases quickly.
  • Vaccinations: We strongly encourage vaccinations for all residents and staff who are eligible. Vaccinations significantly reduce the risk of severe illness and hospitalization from COVID-19.
  • Social Distancing and Isolation Measures: We implement social distancing measures and isolation protocols when necessary to safeguard residents at high risk.
  • Communication and Transparency: We are committed to keeping families informed of any developments regarding COVID-19 within the care home. We provide regular updates and encourage open communication.

By working together, we can create a safe and healthy environment for our residents at Pottersway House.

Our COVID-19 Approach

Care homes in England can make risk-based decisions as to whether face masks are required to be worn. Following a risk assessment, our care home has made the decision to remove the universal wearing of masks. It is a personal choice whether visitors still wish to wear a mask and people receiving care can ask staff to wear face masks; our staff will continue to work in whichever way makes our residents most comfortable.

We continue to no longer have restrictions as to the number of visits per resident though we ask that you make arrangements in advance of your visit to ensure safe visiting practices can be maintained.

At any time, the decision to not wear face masks can be changed as determined by the Home Manager, company, local or national healthcare agencies. COVID-19 regulations and guidance from the Government, National, and Local Healthcare Agencies may also change. For further information, please click here or contact the Home Manager directly.

Staying Connected at Pottersway House

At Pottersway House, we understand the profound importance of maintaining strong connections between our residents, their loved ones, and the wider community. Following the challenges posed by COVID-19, we are even more dedicated to maintaining these connections.

Here’s how we support resident connections:

  • Day Trips and Overnight Stays: We encourage and facilitate opportunities for residents to enjoy day trips and even overnight stays with loved ones. Prior to these outings, each resident undergoes a personalised risk assessment, including respiratory screening upon their return.
  • Vaccination Support: While not mandatory, we strongly encourage residents to stay up-to-date with vaccinations, including those for COVID-19, for added protection during outings.
  • Facilitating Virtual Connections: During times when in-person interaction may be restricted, we provide various online devices and support residents in using video calls to connect with family and friends.
  • Activities and Socialisation: We recognise the vital role human connection and participation in activities play in overall well-being. Therefore, we offer a diverse program of activities, hobbies, and social events, fostering opportunities for residents to connect with each other, pursue their interests, and make new friends.

We believe strong social connections are essential for a fulfilling life. We are committed to supporting our residents in maintaining these connections and creating a vibrant and supportive community at Pottersway House.

COVID-19 FAQ

Whilst being vaccinated is no longer mandatory we strongly recommend that all residents, their visitors, and team members at Pottersway Care Home are fully COVID-19 vaccinated, including future boosters, unless medically exempt. To reduce the risk of infection to others we will continue to encourage our team members to have all their vaccinations.

When transferring from the community or another care home a person does not need to isolate if the circumstances at the care home / interim care facility from which the person has transferred are known.

If the resident is symptomatic or has been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, then they should isolate and perform two LFT tests on day (0), and again on day (2). Isolation can end following two negative tests.

If the resident tests positive in the home, they must be isolated for 5 days. The resident can then return to their normal activities if they feel well and do not have a high temperature (without the use of medication paracetamol).

Residents who test positive should avoid contact with other people who are eligible for COVID-19 treatments for 10 days after a positive test. Residents unable to take the test should isolate for 5 days.

During an outbreak, there may be risk assessments carried out to include but not limited to the control of visiting arrangements, admissions to the home, and the use of communal areas for a period of time. We work closely with local and national agencies in accordance with local agreements and guidance. For more information please contact our Home Manager directly.
