Private Gardens

Our private garden is nestled at the heart of our care home in Alsager and offers residents a peaceful retreat for relaxation and fresh air. The gardens are extensive, with multiple seating areas that allow residents to pause and unwind while enjoying their surroundings. With paved pathways throughout, raised beds for ease of gardening and patio doors that open directly onto the garden from some of our ground-floor rooms, the outdoor space is fully accessible and secure, making it safe and enjoyable for all residents, including those with mobility needs or who use wheelchairs.

Whenever the weather allows, residents are encouraged to go outside for a walk before lunch. This simple routine brings the calming benefits of being outdoors into daily life, helping residents stay active while also making the most of the fresh air and nature around them. There are several shaded and covered areas to ensure they are accessible throughout the year and welcoming in every season.

Cultivate Well-Being and Connection in Our Vibrant Gardens

The gardens at Pottersway House are an important place for shared experiences. Many residents take part in our gardening club, where they are involved in planning and choosing what to plant, from colourful flowers to seasonal vegetables. Herbs, tomatoes, beans and courgettes are grown here and used in our kitchen, so meals are enriched with produce our residents have helped to grow. Over the summer months, residents also enjoy re-potting bedding plants and hanging baskets to keep the gardens vibrant and colourful. By being actively involved in shaping the gardens, residents gain a real sense of purpose, ownership and pride.

Spending time outdoors also helps foster friendships and social interaction. Activities such as reading in the sunshine, enjoying quiet conversations, or simply observing the plants and wildlife all make the gardens a special part of everyday life. The scented plants and raised beds provide a sensory element too by enriching the space with fragrance and texture, while also making it accessible to those who prefer a gentle, hands-on connection with nature. From social afternoons and arts and crafts outside to more individual moments of reflection, the gardens become both a lively hub and a space for calmness.

Embrace Tranquillity in Our Serene Gardens

When the weather is warm, our gardens come alive with events and entertainment. Residents and loved ones can enjoy afternoons of al fresco dining or tea and cake outside, with BBQs and larger social occasions regularly taking place in the summer months. Outdoor entertainment and themed activities are brought into the garden as well, so that residents can enjoy performances and celebrations in the fresh air.

No matter how they choose to use it, our safe and welcoming garden offers residents the freedom to spend their time outdoors in ways that suit them best. For some, it may be as part of a group activity such as gardening or an organised walk, while for others it may be enjoying quiet solitude or a chat with family in one of the many seating areas provided. With its balance of safety participation, the garden at Pottersway House is much more than an outdoor space. It is a vital part of daily life, supporting well-being and the overall lifestyle of our residents.
