Peggy and Graham’s Story of a Fresh Start Together at Pottersway House

When Peggy and Graham joined us at Pottersway House Care Home to receive residential care in March 2026, they were ready to begin a new chapter together. Having previously lived in another care home, they were looking for a setting where they could remain close to one another and enjoy a greater sense of comfort and community.

Peggy and Graham have always shared a strong bond and have been married for over 30 years. From Peggy’s years running pubs to Graham managing his own business, they have led full and active lives. Moving to Pottersway House gave them the opportunity to continue that sense of connection, with the reassurance of dedicated care and a welcoming environment around them.

Settling In and Embracing Life Together

From the moment they arrived, Peggy and Graham began to settle into life at Pottersway House with warmth and positivity. Having adjoining rooms has played an important role in helping them feel at home, as it ensures they can spend time together whenever they choose while still enjoying their own space.

Within just a few weeks, there was a noticeable improvement in their well-being. Peggy, who had initially been using a wheelchair, has made excellent progress with her mobility and is now able to walk with a frame. She regularly takes part in exercise classes and she approaches each session with determination and enthusiasm.

Graham has also experienced a significant improvement in his overall well-being. He enjoys the relaxed atmosphere within our home and loves joining in with daily newspaper reviews and afternoon quizzes, which provide both mental stimulation and opportunities to connect with others. The layout of our care home in Alsager means he can comfortably enjoy activities at his own pace, whether actively participating or simply spending time in the heart of the community.

Together, Peggy and Graham have embraced everything life at Pottersway House has to offer. They truly make the most of every day, enjoying arts and crafts, hymn singing, baking sessions, garden walks and trips out. Their growing confidence and engagement have made them much-loved members of our community, and it has been a pleasure to see them rediscover joy in everyday moments.

Lucy Rushton, our Lifestyle Lead, has shared her experience with them both: “It has been so lovely to see Peggy & Graham settle in so well. Having adjoining rooms means they can stay close to one another, and that sense of comfort and companionship has made such a difference.”
